There's hardly anyone who doesn't know Lake Balaton – buzzing beaches, sunsets, lángos, bike tours, wine, first loves, the scent of sunscreen, pedal boats – this is Hungary's happiest landscape. But do we really know it? Dorka Bartha discovered by chance over a decade ago how exciting its off-season face can be. Since then, she's been cycling along the Balaton shore, deserted after the summer season, with a camera around her neck, photographing holiday homes with closed shutters, intriguing typographical elements, shapely fences, and the landscape that becomes both familiar and unfamiliar at this time of year. Each photo captures a perfect moment for her, the endless tranquility of the off-season lakeside, or the fragile transience of our memories. This world is also presented in her book published in 2023, "balaton offseason – when the shore of the Hungarian sea empties."
The prints made from the photos are high-quality art giclée prints, made on 245-gram ArtDeco Aquarelle paper, which can adorn homes or holiday retreats for many decades.
