SUSU Keramika is the joint brand of Asbóth Szaffi and Bodnár Flóra: their handmade, hand-built ceramics that proclaim unevenness. Although they make everyday objects, they do not fit into a pre-defined world of forms. Their objects are alive, fingerprinted, never homogeneous, but still clean. The development of their patterns is determined by the finished, raw forms.
Szaffi and Flóra have been observing each other's work from afar for years in many different creative fields and through many mutual acquaintances, both of whom have long planned to create something truly exciting together one day.
Szaffi graduated as a textile designer from the Moholy-Nagy University of Arts, and Flóra graduated in design and art theory from the Budapest Metropolitan University, but she is also a keen craftswoman - she loves to paint, sculpt, embroider, and weave. After spending years abroad, the idea suddenly came to her: ceramics, as a common interest of both of them, was the basis for the SUSU Keramika brand, whose name means milk in Indonesian and soot in Japanese. The uniqueness of their hand-patterned small objects is given by unique, hand-painted graphics, gold patterns, plant and face motifs.
Both are obsessed with colors and patterns, having worked as graphic designers, after which they really enjoy clay and the tangible object on which their drawings are placed. Everything is made by two people: their tastes, personalities and styles are very similar, so it is easy to work together, but they are also just different enough that they can both bring new ideas, refresh and inspire each other.
SUSU Keramika immediately enchanted Budapest design enthusiasts, the small brand is growing successfully, so outgrowing the family workshop, interested parties can visit the girls in their independent studio in Buda from the fall of 2018!
