Makers' Talks – November 25th – MOST Bistro
Our Makers' Talks series has reached its third "episode", where Hungarian design once again plays a leading role. This time we are interested in everything related to BOOKS, and within that we are mainly looking into independent book publishing and book design - with our invited guests we will explore the difficulties and obstacles that come with this, what opportunities this field holds and what motivation is behind founding an independent publisher.
Recently, the number of independent books and book publishers has increased. What could be the reason for this phenomenon, and what positive or negative consequences could this change have? Is this an opportunity or a disadvantage for writers, editors, graphic designers, illustrators, photographers (and their peers)? Can anyone's dream come true today and have their own book, or is it recommended that only the truly talented venture into the field of book design and publishing? What aesthetic, business, strategic, and other aspects are worth keeping in mind if we are to set our minds to a book project?
Those who will be with us:
Orsolya Fenyvesi, poet, translator, editor, founder of Két Hold Publishing House
Ákos Polgárdi, graphic designer, founder of the Hungarian Book Design Award
Kata Szabó, social media manager, author of Sempre Guide
Host: Kitti Mayer, design theorist
If you've already met your favorite designers at Makers' fairs, but would like to get to know them and their brand's history better, don't miss the MAKERS' TALKS events, where we always bring a different Hungarian creator to the table.
