PLANTETHICS is a Hungarian brand that creates ethical, sustainable, vegan jewelry, fashion, and home accessories. It was founded in 2015 by Budapest-based designer Barbara Dénes.
The nature-inspired, clean, elegant pieces are handmade with love, adhering to the principles of plant ethics, with special attention to raw materials, suppliers, and working conditions. Every piece of jewelry is made from responsibly sourced, fair trade, and recycled precious metals, wood, glass, and real plants, sometimes complemented by gemstones, lending a refined appearance to the wearer.
Barbara is happy to take on custom orders: engagement rings, wedding bands, or any personal jewelry, pendants, amulets, mini sculptures, even from gold brought by the customer. Since sustainability is of paramount importance to her, she gladly gives new life to unworn family heirlooms and old beautiful memories in the form of fresh pieces that can be worn with joy or enrich your home.
By visiting the MUMU workshop museum, which opened in 2023, you can discover the works of more than 40 artists working in sustainable fashion and design. It also serves as the open goldsmith workshop of PLANTETHICS, where you can observe and even participate in the creative processes, and attend jewelry-making workshops among many other activities.
Since a small corner grocery store operated in the MUMU's location for decades, the creators decided to make objects or illustrations that, in some way, harken back to the former delicatessen, the goods available there, the iconic items of old times, paying homage to the community-building place and the kind people who have visited for many years. This is how the PRETZEL necklace and earrings were born, which, alongside the nature-inspired designs, became a new favorite among the PLANTETHICS audience.
These were followed by the MUMU baseball caps, featuring all sorts of time-traveling patterns, from boxed soft drinks to plastic chairs and moka pots.
On Tuesdays, Barbara is usually at MUMU, so you can meet and talk with her in person. She always welcomes visitors with great joy and delicious tea and coffee.
